LIFE CO2IntBio PROJECT BASELINE REPORT

The Life Cycle Assesment (LCA) is a methodology that allows the evaluation of the environmental impacts of a product or service.

In this case, thanks to the LCA it is possible to compare the environmental impacts associated to the CO2 synthesis in different manufacturing scenarios, analysing the impacts of the different lyfe cycle stages for every production case: obtaining raw materials, manufacturing, distribution, use and end of life.

Specific, the LIFE CO2IntBio project report, asses the impact of  CO2 synthesis:

LIFE CO2IntBio INDUSTRIAL SYMBIOSIS MODEL

Circular economy is a model of regenerative economy where raw materials come back to the natural cycle or the productive cycle. This way, the product value, materials and resources are maintened in the value chain the most time possible.

Innovation is key for the transition to a new economic model. Business collaboration and sinergies creation between different industries become a tool to develop a systemic approach of circular economy into the industrial sector.

CO2 MARKET RESEARCH. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

COmarket has a great growth projection especially due to the development of new COapplications, especially as a sustainable alternative to other chemical products frequently used currently.

This is very interesting for positioning the Green CO2 produced in the LIFE CO2IntBio project, with a 100% renewable origin, wich provides added value for its use as raw material by companies that are increasingly aware of environmental values.

CO2 USES AND APPLICATIONS

CO2 as commercial product has multiple applications and is highly demanded by different sectors of activity. We can find CO2 in many products consumed on a daily basis. Furthermore, it is the center of several research projects that investigate in new sustainable uses for this gas, since it can be an  alternative more respectful than other chemical products currently used.

In the document attached it is possible to find further information about the variety of uses for the CO2.

LIFE CO2IntBio PROJECT RESULTS

The main objective of the LIFE CO2IntBio project is to contribute to the climate change mitigation through a model of industrial integration based in carbon capture and use technologies.

The technology used in the LIFE CO2IntBio pilot project allows to avoid the emissions of 420 kg of CO2 equivalent for a ton of CO2 produced.

The next inphographic shows other interesting results of the project.

THE CO2 CAPTURE AND PURIFICATION PLANT OF THE LIFE CO2IntBio PROJECT OBTAINS A RECOGNITION FOR OBTAINING ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORIZATION

New recognition for the carbon capture and purification plant in Garray in a meeting organized by the Environmental Regional Government of Castilla y León. This act aims to publicly recognize those companies that are making a remarkable efforr in environmental issues.

These awards are classified into three categories:

THE LIFE CO2IntBio PROJECT PARTICIPATES IN THE "LIFE INNOVATES CLIMATE ACTION" MEETING

The LIFE CO2IntBio Project will take part in the LIFE Innovates Climate Action C2C Platform Meeting on November 8th-9th. In this event will be analyzed systemic innovation and climate action in Europe. Beyond technological developments, systemic innovation is an approach that includes the interactions between research centres, industry, policymakers and general public.

GREEN CO2 OBTAINS THE FSSC 22000 CERTIFICATION ABOUT FOOD SAFETY AND SECURITY

With the aim of guaranteeing food safety and security, Carburos Metálicos has implemented a strict internal and external audited management system, so that food-grade gases achieve and often exceed the national requirements in terms of quality, hygiene, traceability and specifications.

All ofcarbon dioxide production plants of Carburos Metálicos are FSSC 22000 certified, including the new Garray plant since July 2023. This is a certification scheme for food safety management systems based on existing ISO 22000 standars.

START OF THE OPERATOIN IN THE CO2 CAPTURE AND PURIFICATION PLANT OF THE LIFE CO2IntBio PROJECT

The LIFE CO2IntBio project began in June 2019, with the objective of demostrate the advantages of an industrial symbiosis model where the CO2 from the combustion flue gas of the biomass power plant of Bioeléctrica de Garray are captured, purified and treated in a new plant of the company Carburos Metálicos to obtain a new CO2 100% from a renewable origin to be used as raw material in other industrial procesess.
