In the webinar "Industrial opportunities linked to the capture and use of CO2", organized by Tecnalia, Dra. Sonia Guri, Lead Agricultural Engineer in Carburos Metálicos, R+D Department, offered the presentation "Recovery and reuse of CO2: a sustainable future", speaking abour the LIFE CO2IntBio project.

This website has been ecodesign to reduce carbon emissions generated by the visits of the web users.

CARBUROS METÁLICOS AND ENSO (BIOELÉCTRICA DE GARRAY) SIGN AN AGREEMENT TO CAPTURE AND RECYCLE GREEN CO2 IN SORIA (SPAIN)

Carburos Metálicos, a leading company in the industrial and medical gas sector in Spain and part of the Air Products Group, will build and operate a plant for the capture, cleaning and use of CO2 emitted by Bioeléctrica de Garray, the biomass power plant owned by ENSO (Energy Environment and Sustainability) in Garray, Soria (Spain). In addition to this, the biomass plant will supply the energy and steam necessary for CO2 capture processing. The plant is expected to start operations in June 2021.

The LIFE CO2 Int Bio project in the special edition on bioenergy of RETEMA magazine

The magazine RETEMA (Revista Técnica de Medioambiente –Magazine on Technology in Environment) specialized in environmental industry with a history of more than 30 years, dedicates a space to LIFE CO2 Int Bio project in its latest publication, an issue dedicated on bioenergy.

This edition is dedicated exclusively on bioenergy, with focus on biogases and biomass, and makes an analysis of the sector in Spain and the innovative nature of new related technologies.

Participation in the Annual Assembly of BIOPLAT

In addition to the presentation of this succesful story on industrial symbiosis and CO2 capture and utilisation, complemented with the thermal and electrical integration of two processes and the future production of organic fertilizers, the Assembly presented the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda of the Spanish sector of Biomass and the Bioeconomy. In this Agenda, the project has a relevant presence in Infobox 9 of the Added Value section.

The concept "sustainable development" refers to that development which satisfies the needs of the present generation without compromising the resources and possibilities of future generations. It tries to achieve a better quality life, both present and future. 

Carbon capture and use

Carbon capture is a process by which it is possible to isolate the CO2 present in the gases that are emitted in the processes of industrial combustion or electricity generation. This would be the first process of the techniques known as Carbon Capture, Storage and Use (CCUS).

After its capture, it is possible to use carbon dioxide in the same place where it has been captured or transport it to the place of use, which constitutes Carbon Capture and Use techniques (CCU).
